Life, learning it, accepting yourself, removing the fog from the eyes is the most beautiful journey. The journey concludes in the beautiful simple fashion of knowing that once you are not a twat you always will be, you are human, twatness is, of course, the human condition.
Getting shit wrong is an unavoidable tool in getting it right. If you can accept that you were wrong, say to yourself that you were wrong, then take the most important step of fixing the wrongness you start to get shit right. It is as funny as hell to look back at yourself, what you put yourself through, the beauty that has opened up because of it.
Soap and sopa
Learning Spanish is so great, just an absolute joy of my life. Practicing to learn one of the greatest of great joys.
Early into the journey was in Spain, needed two things from the pharmacy, didn’t look up how to say either.
One was condoms, yo busco para proteccion para hombre, said like this, monotone, no changing in any syllable. Protection is actually protección, it has a tilde, the tilde represents the dominant syllable, the one which requires emphasis, pro-tec-CION, for example. Not too much of an issue for a word like this.
The sentence is a question, therefore ¿yo busco para proteccíon para hombre?, a question in Spanish is the same as the statement. A question starts with an even tone and gets higher in pitch towards the end, it is the way to differentiate, takes listening closely and lots of practice speaking.
It was a soap container that I was mainly after though, tried to explain what was needed for a few minutes but all I got in response is, somos una farmacia. Went home without one.
Afterwards looked up what I was saying, una copa para sopa, a cup for soup.
As close as soap and sopa are in their literal presentation, they are miles apart in their literal translation, one is for cleaning the other for eating. Jabón is the word for soap, much much different. Me and the pharmacists had a super time all the same, a great laugh, it is what it is all about.
Oh and condoms in Spanish is condones, really should know this one men. Or, alternatively, a little more fancy with your Spanish, preservativos.
