My interpretation of some terms may not align with others and it’s important we are on the same page with our terminology if we have any chance to speak the same language.
I make some up but mostly I take terms I know and use them in my own way, for instance wet paper bag isn’t the full saying it is, couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag, wet paper bag sums it up for me. Alternatively, someone tells me something like screaming eagle, and the explanation is completely plausible, it causes no harm in it not being the true meaning and, most importantly, it is funny.
Screaming Eagle
I get to introduce Scotty here, a mate I know is struggling too. It breaks my heart how many of my friends are struggling, does it break yours? Many of your friends are struggling, you very likely are, what do we do about this? The pursuit of happiness is proving not to be any road to happiness, so what do we do?
After primary Scotty and I went to two different schools, they came with two different languages, still English but one not really.
14 years old, me and Scotty are at Magic Mountain, been there all day and had a blast. Start walking home and the beautiful worker woman pulled over and gave us a lift into town. She was attractive, she was the first woman who I had a sexually motivated boner over, right there in the back seat of her car.
Scotty clearly had similar thoughts going through his head, well it is all that ever went through Scotty’s head really. I didn’t have any thoughts, just this thing that came when I saw down this women’s shirt accidentally and it got all vibratory energy like, never experienced it before, freaked me out.
Scotty banged on about her all day, and I don’t know if this conversation was had with Scotty but it’s plausible and the situation makes it more so. Scotty talking about a bunch of things she wanted to do to him, yeah she wanted him but he was playing hard to get ….. And then he said, ‘I wonder if she’d be up for a screaming eagle?’ It was a rhetorical question, he knew I had no idea what he was talking about, he just said it because he wanted to tell me what it was so badly.
‘So Freddy, picture a woman, how many holes does she have? Three right? Yep, well done, haha! Virgin!’ ‘Anyway Freddy, she also has two hands right? So now, I want you to picture this, think really hard and try to get the full scene in your head. Picture that in each hole, and also in both hands is a big fat dick!’
Scotty pauses, he can see that I’m trying to work this out, it’s complicated. Finally the look comes into my eye that says okay I get ya mate, and Scotty says with a massive smile on his face ‘screaming eagle’.
‘You’re welcome’.
Contradiction
I was reading the cricinfo biography for a retiring cricketer, Peter Siddle. I really enjoyed watching him bowl, the guy worked hard non-stop, all day, every day. It was exhausting watching him. It is well know that Siddle is vegan, eats a box of bananas or something crazy on match days.
His bio states that Peter is a contradiction, a farmer who is also a vegan. This is not the meaning of contradiction, maybe saying he was a butcher and a vegan provided the veganism involves animal rights. Alternatively, a contradiction would be something like Hitler giving an anti-discrimination speech, Donald Trump saying something intelligent, Ghandi running the UFC or a rascist and bigot like Tony Abbott being named the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
Oh, wait, the last one actually happenned ….
WAIT! There’s more! We first voted this maggot as our Prime Minister, and, AND, somehow we Aussie’s think we have the right to bag out America. Yeah, they voted him in twice, but we voted in someone thrice as bad, we really are a shit piece of shit people.
Sack of wet cement
This one I am pretty sure is real. It more or less means someone or something is a dead weight, you would not want it tied to your feet when pushed off a ship in the middle of the ocean. There is only one direction you go in this situation and it is straight down, this is all a dead weight does, brings everything in it’s world down.
If David and the RSL weren’t such sacks of wet cement the Groundskeeper might actually have a chance of bringing some security to it’s life.
To believe, have faith, to think.
Belief – an acceptance that something exists or is true, especially one without proof.
There is no proof, key term here. Without proof anything we can summise, hypothesize, presume, attach ourselves to is merely a guess. It is not acceptance, it is a guess based on attachment to how someone wants something to be. So much so they will ignore the myriads of evidence available proving their guess wrong.
The bible is not even subjective evidence, it is a book written nearly 2000 years ago, parts of it longer. Nobody alive was there witnessing any of the events. Nobody can know anything about this book, including the motivation behind it, the only thing available is belief, acceptance without proof, a guess.
This is merely what belief is a guess that I reallly really really really want to to be true. So much so I will ignore all the evidence, the fact that not a single person in my life or the life of anybody I have known has found freedom through this stupid thing doesn’t matter. In fact, if I were to use my own brain I will see that it has done nothing but brought violence to the world, hatred and separation.
Faith – strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.
Again, there is no proof.
I have a mate, beautiful mate, Dominic who is holding the world and himself back with faith. This man believes that if he were to jump off a cliff he will bounce straight up. He is a medicine provider and her has this rubbish in his space, he does what he does more beautifully than anybody but still he is putting a fence around the people he works with.
If you have faith and this is your answer, it is not an answer, it is not an answer until it is proven. To be free one has to test their faith, you, believer in cliff jumping miracles will need to test this for freedom and I don’t know a whole lot of people who have survived this. Not much objective evidence is available to me.
It doesn’t seem like the most repeatable or reliable way to freedom. In one way it is, just comes without the breathing part.
Alternatively understand faith is belief, it is a guess, it is getting in the way of the truth, of the evidence. It, as much as belief, is causing absolute separation.
To think – have a particular opinion, belief, or idea about someone or something.
Well, it means exactly the same as the above but without as much attachment. There is still attachment but not as much, it may be possible to get through to you.
I think this and that, I am a hairdresser and I think this about Artificial Intelligence because the lyrics in a song I listen to said this, or Mary down the road said so-and-so, and I believe her. All the while there is the world’s leading AI engineer trying to tell you that you are wrong and this is why, the why based on evidence, based on a specialist. The why that means nothing in comparison to your I think, I believe.
See what I’m getting at here?
Understand basic language and thinking for yourself becomes much more available.
Subjective data
Subjective data is information that comes directly from the patient and reflects their personal perspective.
An example is the pain scale, it is not measurable in any other way other than opinion. It is opinion always because everybody perceives pain differently.
The start of the session a doctor asks your pain level, you respond. They, then, at the end of the session, again, you respond. Starting at a pain level of 7, decreasing to 5 by the end of the session. The therapy was successful in making your pain two levels better. Personal perspective based data.
Subjective data is not reliable nor consistent. It does not mean something is true, it is not evidence.
Subjective data is always a bit of a guess, hmmm, ummm, it feels about a, I don’t know, maybe a seven.
Objective data
Objective data is information that is verifiable and consistent, regardless of who is collecting it.
Objective data is math, pure mathematics and nothing else. It is numbers, everything is repeatable by anybody with the right equipment, it is evidence based.
17 monkeys died and three were cured from the disease by treatment A. 17 monkeys were cured, three had no change, and zero died from treatment B. Numbers simple.
A study scooping jelly beans with a specfic scoop found after 91265 scoops that, on average, each scoop of jelly beans contains 143 jelly beans. Data. It is made up of, on average, 31 white, 22 green, 17 black, 9 brown, 34 blue, 13 purple and 17 yellow.
Objective data is reliable and consistent. It means something is as close to true as can be proven, there are occasionally exceptions, but overall objective data is much more reliable evidence.
So, I guess, for everyone asking the stupid question of who decides what is true? I’d imagine the answer is the objective data. Everything else is subjective, just a guess, no need to get all bent out of shape about it all.
Guys
Guys, I use this word a lot, I use it for both women and men and groups alike. My blood boils when people, women, a group of them, tell me not to call them guys because they aren’t guys, when they completely are. Ignorance, shits me to tears.
Guys, this word, that means a collective of people, any people, all people. There is no gender in this word, it does not have a masculine or feminine identity. It is the perfect word to call a group of anybody’s.
To argue that calling a bunch of women guys is like you calling me a girl is pure stupidity, it means you have no idea what you are talking about, you bring no value to my world, anybody’s world. There is literally a YouTube video I once saw on a young woman banging on about this word for 20 minutes, not-realising, or taking the time to understand it first, do a tiny bit of research, understand it is gender neutral.
The singular is masculine, two different words.
The funniest thing about this word however is its origins, I’m just going to copy and paste from the dictionary, you do the rest;
The original definition of “guy” and its plural “guys” stems from Guy Fawkes and the effigy of him burned on Guy Fawkes Day in England. These effigies, often depicted in ragged or grotesque attire, became known as “guys”. Over time, the term evolved to describe a person of strange or poorly dressed appearance, and then eventually, a more general term for a man. In modern usage, “guys” is often used as a gender-neutral term for a group of people.
The Enigma
In everything I am writing there is a puzzle within each heading, all topics will end up being the same outcome, the same puzzle solution. Within paragraphs within each chapter the same process is happening. This is called an enigma, a mystery in the puzzle space without being a mystery at all.
An Enigma is generally a puzzle we need to look at from a different angle, with different eyes, using different parts of our socialised thinking patterns. Once we are able to take a little right turn and look down on the puzzle from another angle we see that it is actually really simple.
I have three jigsaws in front of me, I do not in actual fact, imagine I do. One is a standard 800 piece puzzle, takes up half a small coffee table, the second the same size, 80 pieces, the third same size again, 8000 pieces.
Picture one is a country farm setting, two a family of pigs in a sty, three is nothing but solid blue. The first puzzle is your standard difficult, handful of hours, the second beginner level, the third you have been on for a week and managed to find seven pieces that fit one another, it’s a puzzle that you cannot get your head around. It isn’t an enigma yet though, no matter how hard you find it.
One part of the enigma is why the hell, and who the hell decided it was a good idea to take a photo of blank nothingess. You pat them on the back, easy money.
These are all still just plain old-fashioned jigsaw puzzles, varying difficulties but they all follow the same set of parameters, you can only complete them by following those parameters. An enigma is designed to ensure you have to think outside of those parameters. It’s the game I am playing with you, working to open up your brain to think a little differently together.
The three puzzles are finally complete, sitting next to one another. You stare, just stare, cannot work out what is going on in front of you, but there is something here that needs to be explored.
Taking a closer look at the standard difficulty puzzle you see a family of pigs in a sty, it looks familiar, you sit back. Holy shit, these canny pricks have used the same photo to make two very different puzzles for two completely different audiences, good on them, easy money. The smile then comes across your face, you cannot help but laugh at the genius behind it, photo number three is actually a cloud, it is a zoomed in shot of the other two puzzles.
The enigma isn’t the puzzle, it’s the puzzles as a whole, seeing the mystery behind them all. They are one and the same thing, $150 just came out of your pocket to buy the exact same picture three times. An Enigma has a solution, you often do not know you are working with one until you do, or until it becomes clear that the problem in front of me is not the problem as I want it to be.
We want things to work x, y and z, but often they work y and z before x. The more elastic, open to change, your mind is you’ll pick these things up super duper quickly, recognise the game, puzzle, enigma and have a bloody good time of it.
Everything I write I do not plan, but if you watch, and pay attention, I give topics and expand them, then I bring them all together as best possible for the stage of learning we are at. We then move forward to together.
To teach effectively you have to plan ahead, make the syllabus make sense, ensure that it flows.
I do not do this except for the flow part, not consciously. I used to, it was practice for how I interact with the world now, do my teaching and learning, my writing. I know I am writing this thing now, whatever it is. It is the reason I am at Lorraine’s, having only a handful of days before I leave Australia and many handfuls of drugs. The drugs ensure I mostly stay alone and away from vehicle and traffic noise, plus they ensure I have to express any residual bits and pieces left inside of me.
The obesity chapter is the most obvious currently, First Nations, Iboga, the Church, following next behind. I am about to write another chapter, it just came into my head, getting some darts first. Haha yep, getting fit taught by a durry muncher, part of the puzzle, prejudice. I have told you how little cigarette’s get in the way when you are not a lazy prick already. I am not obese, I can walk up a big hill, I can do it over and over again.
Obesity chapter, four or five headings ago I introduced exercise, next heading told you the first part of the solution to the obesity crisis is 30 minutes of moving your body everyday, not exercise (all though I used the word), just move it.
We then moved onto type two diabetes, a disease highly attributed to a lack of exercise, sedentary (not moving at all, sitting for long periods) behaviour, and poor diet. Heading one I introduce you to science, data and fact, unequivocal fact, cannot be argued unless ignorance dominates your world. The second heading on diabetes talks to you about my personal experience with it, what I have seen with my eyes, what you are being told, support for the evidence. I expand on the science behind the condition within the expanded explanation. I am attempting to get you to understand how real this is, while understanding the realness.
I have introduced some technical terms along the way, pancreas and insulin for example, oxygen, talked about reduction in blood flow, what that means for our bodies, the poor outcomes it can have.
Now, after I get me some darts, the next part in the process is forming in my head. It isn’t quiite there yet to writing levels but it is forming. The topic has a heavy focus on tying together exercise, oxygen, blood flow, blood vessel walls and more, all the things we have already talk about. I will help you make sense of it hopefully, put all puzzles together, understand the enigma.
The enigma is rarely what you think, it mainly comes because you do not understand the basics of what you are learning. In this whole thing it is what we do together, build our basics, understand them together. From this point I guarantee your own world will open up to you, simply through understanding simple concepts simply.
It absolutely did for me.
Socialising and Conditioning
Have you read these words once or twice? Let’s see if I can make it quick and simple, bit boring to talk about to be honest but we need to understand one another if we are going to have a real conversation.
Socialising is what I have learned from the circumstances in which I was raised. Socialising continues throughout our life through the choices we make, choices that were formed from the most intensive socialising influence period of our lives. The zero to three year period.
Our first three years of life we are sponges, the most spongy of sponges. We have very little communication skills until we can form sentences, generally between the ages of 18 and 24 months. Up until this pure sponge, nothing but listen, watch and learn. In the womb even, nothing but listen and feel. What we are exposed to during these years, even in utero, dictates the path of our lives, our influenes, our habits, the things we keep secret.
The older we get the less of a sponge, we remain extremely spongy throughout the teenage years.
Socialising is what we learn from family, and the influences our family bring into our lives. There is no control over it, we simply sit back and learn. Next, when communication is built we communicate in their way. We exist in the house environment by the thumb of the father, the pascifist mother, vice-versa, the rules we need to obey. The house extends to social interactions, we learn it all, take it all in. Parents, yes, you must reflect if your child is a struggling adult.
Of course we have our own will, thoughts, interests. Many will conflict with our socialised and conditioned norms, the struggle within myself begins. Which is basically what feelings are, a struggle to understand the way things are versus how we want them to be.
Conditioning is the influence of those fighting for your attention. Advertising, media, news, politics, what it means to be a man, who a woman should be, stereotypes, expectations. The things that make you think you need to be anything but you.
We understand eachother now? Wasn’t too boring actually, really enjoyed writing it, Happy Wednesday good buddies.
